Why Market Your Business With Email
In this post I will be discussing why you should be prioritising the building of an email list and how having a list of email subscribers is actually one of the most important marketing assets your business can have.
What is an email list?
An email list is essentially a list of email addresses of existing and potential customers (let’s call them subscribers). The list may also contain other contact information (such as their phone numbers)
Why is an email list so valuable?
Here are a few examples of valuable marketing tactics you can implement with your email list:
Blog posts – Notify your subscribers every time you send out a blog post. This can drive traffic to your website.
Market research surveys – Let’s say you want to figure out what products or services to sell, you can email your subscribers and ask them what they want. Imagine how much time, effort and risk you could save by doing this before launching new products or services!
Re-engaging customers who previously bought from you – It is much more likely that customers who bought from you before will buy from you again.
(Credible sources also reveal that re-engaging old contacts is about 50% cheaper than spending money on converting new visitors into email list subscribers.)
Email lists are important because email marketing is the best way to connect with customers vs. social media. In fact, you are 6x more likely to get higher click-through rates through emails instead of tweets. Also, email is 40 times more effective at acquiring new customers than Facebook or Twitter (Source: Campaign Monitor)
Email Marketing vs Social Media – Visibility
On social media there is so much content being submitted and so many filters (algorithms) at play, that there is only a very small chance that your followers are even going to be aware of your content (let alone read it).
On the other hand, when you send an email to your subscribers, all of them are going to receive it and If your email headlines are well written, there is a high probability that your emails are going to be opened.
In terms of visibility, It is obvious that email marketing is superior to social media.
Please note that I am not suggesting for one moment that you should not use social media to market your business. This post is about the benefits of building an email list and using it as a marketing tool in addition to your social media marketing activities.
Your Email List Is a Marketing Asset!
As of late 2019, average reach for Facebook posts was down by 2.2%, meaning that brands could reasonably expect their posts to be seen by about 5.5% of their Page’s followers.Big brands with massive follower counts can expect even lower averages. [Source: Hootsuite Blog]
What happens if the average reach for social media posts drops even more?
What happens if you social media account gets suspended? You may not know this but Facebook for example, is constantly suspending pages & accounts for all kinds of obscure “policy violations”- This could easily happen to you…
Do you have a backup plan?
Your email subscriber list is not only an asset (that you control) it’s also a great backup policy to have and one that you can use at any time to reach your customers directly. This holds true even if you presently don’t send many emails.
Conclusion
You can use your email list to:
- Sell products or services
- Drive traffic to your blog posts
- Drive traffic to market surveys
- Drive traffic to videos on your YouTube channel
- And much more…
It doesn’t matter the type or size of your business. Building an email list is key to growing your business.
In my next post I will discuss:
- What you need to start building an email list.
