FAQs About Facebook Ads

Why Should I Use Facebook Ads For My Business?

1. Facebook is the 2nd largest ad platform* and it’s extremely popular

This means your target audience is on Facebook.

There are presently more than 3 million businesses actively advertising on Facebook. These businesses would not be using Facebook advertising if it didn’t work.

(*Facebook is currently the 2nd largest ad platform with over 2.93 billion active users worldwide! – Source: Statista.com)

2. Posting on Facebook to try and reach your audience organically (i.e. “free”) has become almost completely ineffective. It is said that the average organic Facebook Page post sees just 0.07% engagement. (Source: Hootsuite). This means that if you want people to see your business and its offers on Facebook, you will have to “pay to play”

3. Facebook ads are cheaper than other advertising channels. In our experience, a daily advertising budget of R100/day (Approximately R2000 per month) will be much more cost-efficient on Facebook than on any other ad platform.

4. The power of Facebook ads targeting and tracking:

4.1 Facebook targeting – Facebook has the most powerful targeting system available. This allows advertisers to show their ads to their specific target audience. Targeting options include: Interests, languages, age ranges, behaviours and many more. Local businesses can even use location targeting to only advertise in their area of business and to attract their ideal customers to their physical business location.

4.2 Facebook ads tracking – We highly recommend that you have the Facebook Pixel tracking code installed on your website/landing page before you start running any ads. This analytics tool will help you measure how effective your Facebook ads campaigns are, by tracking the actions that visitors to your pages take. The Facebook Pixel can track a wide variety of “events” (such as Page views, Time on page, Purchases, and many more). Most importantly, the Facebook Pixel can help you create better ads and build highly targeted audiences to show your ads to.

How Much Should I Spend On Facebook Ads?

We suggest starting with a minimum budget of R100 per day (Approximately R2000 per month*)

Depending on the marketing objective you have selected for your campaign, this budget may have to be increased after the first week or two (If you are not getting the results you need) For example: If you’ve been running a Traffic ad for one week, at a daily budget of R100, you may find that you’re not getting significant results (i.e. the data shows that your costs per click or cost per landing page view is higher than anticipated). Increasing your budget may be your best option.

*During the first 5 to 7 days (the “testing phase”) we suggest a budget of R200 per day. This budget will allow us to determine which ad variation has performed the best. At this time you can also evaluate your results and decide if you want to increase your budget.

How Do I Know That My Facebook Ads Are Successful?

When creating a Facebook Ad, you will always be asked to choose an advertising objective. Your advertising objective is what you want people to do when they see your ads.

Let’s say for example, your goal is to send people from Facebook to your website or landing page. To achieve this, you will create a Facebook Ad and select the “Traffic” objective (We call this a “Facebook Traffic Ad”)

When you want to measure how successful your “Traffic Ad” is, you will be able to make use of success metrics (also know as “Key Performance Indicators”/KPI’s). For a Facebook “Traffic Ad”, the most appropriate success metric is usually: Cost per link click or landing page views (Note: The landing page views metric is only available if you have the Facebook Pixel installed on your website or landing page)

To summarize: To measure the success of any Facebook Ad campaign you have to have these 3 things in place:

1. Your goal (business objective)

2. A success metric/key perfomance indicator, and

3. Your ad objective.

Let’s use another example to explain this:

Business objective = Brand Awareness (To build interest in your business by showing your ads to the maximum number of people in your target audience)

KPI = Reach and/or cost per 1000 people reached. Note: If you are using a video ad for this, your KPI’s include: Video views, percentage watched, average time watched.

Ad objective = Reach or Brand Awareness

What Are The Best Types of Facebook Ads For Small Businesses?

Facebook offers a wide variety of Ad types based on your marketing objectives. Your ad will be “optimized” (fine-tuned) for the marketing objective you choose. For example, if you choose the “traffic” objective when creating your ad, Facebook will show your ad to people who are more likely to click on ads. If you choose the Video views objective, Facebook will show your ads to people who are more likely to watch videos.

Although we are able to create most types of Facebook ads for clients. We suggest the following Facebook ad types for small businesses or for people who are new to Facebook advertising:

1. Facebook Traffic Ad

This type of Facebook ad is highly recommended for small business advertisers or for advertisers who have smaller budgets and who want to “test the waters” with Facebook Ads. Find out more about this ad type here.

2. Facebook Conversion Ad

This is probably the most powerful type of Facebook ad available to small & medium businesses. Getting traffic to your website is great but not many of those people will actually convert into leads or buyers. The Facebook Conversion Ad is automatically optimized for conversions (i.e. leads, downloads or even sales) – Find out more about this ad type here.

Other Facebook Ad Types We Offer

(For more information about any of the Facebook ad types listed below, please make use of our Free Facebook Consultation)

Boosted Posts – An ad created by using a post that’s already on your Facebook Page.

Boosting a post can help you get more messages, video views, leads or calls. You may also reach new people who are likely to be interested in your Page or Business, but don’t currently follow you

App Install Ads

App Install Ads show your ad to people most likely to download and engage with your app

Video Views Ads

Show people video ads. In our experience, these types of ads are best used if your goal is to get cheaper video views.

If your actual goal with your video is to drive more traffic to your website/landing pages, or to get more conversions, it is much better strategy to use a Traffic ad or a Conversion ad and to use your video in the ad itself (instead of an image)

Lead Ads

Lead Ads allow you to find people who may be interested in your products or services and collect information from them. Using an Instant Form, you can collect contact information such as name, email address, phone number and more.

Messages Ads

Messages Ads allow people to engage with you on Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram.

We Also Do The Following Ad Types (We Do Not Recommended These Ad Types for Small Business Customers)

Brand Awareness Ads (Show your ads to people who are most likely to remember them)

Reach Ads (Show your ads to the maximum number of people)

Engagement Ads (Get more Page likes, event responses, or post reacts, comments or shares)

Catalog Sales Ads (Use your target audience to show people ads with items from your catalogue)

Catalog Sales Ads are for e-commerce companies with a large number of items/products. Only businesses who have created an online Catalog through the Facebook Business Manager can use these types of ads.

Store Traffic Ads (Show your ads to people most likely to visit your physical shops when they are near them)

Store Traffic Ads are only allowed for businesses with multiple stores and only if those locations have been added to Facebook.
